Hammerson has secured outline planning consent from Bristol City Council to redevelop underutilised land next to its car park, unlocking a major new investment at one of the city centre’s most important gateways.
The resolution to grant consent for Cabot Gate paves the way for a landmark development, delivering up to 600 student accommodation units, high-quality public realm and community uses, subject to detailed design and reserved matters approval. The proposals are the result of Hammerson’s strategy to maximise value from its strategic landholdings while enhancing the quality, connectivity and sustainability of its estates.
Following extensive public consultation, community engagement and close alignment with Bristol City Council’s vision for the city, the approved outline plans include a multi-purpose community pavilion, new green spaces, and improved pedestrian and cycle routes linking local areas with the city centre.
The consent builds on Hammerson’s wider programme of investment in Bristol, including approved plans to enhance Quakers Friars. Hammerson has also been leading the successful, ongoing repositioning at Cabot Circus, where new retail and leisure openings continue to cement its place as the leading retail destination in the South-West.
