We curate and reshape entire neighbourhoods and city centre spaces. Our strategy recognises the unique position that Hammerson has in urban locations and the opportunities to leverage our experience and capabilities to create appealing destinations, serving occupiers, customers and communities.
Our aim is simple and clear - to create total returns for shareholders through consistent execution against our four strategic elements:

Underpinning our strategy is our commitment to sustainability as we continue on our pathway to being Net Zero by 2030.
In 2021, we promised a turnaround of the business and the Disposal of Value Retail means it has now been delivered. This immediately deleverages our business and opens up an exciting new era for Hammerson, focused on accelerating growth whilst maintaining our operational grip and financial discipline. I am excited that we are now firmly on the front foot and ready to build on our growing momentum and proven track record over recent years.

Strategic priorities
Hammerson is as an owner, operator and developer of sustainable prime urban real estate. Execution of our strategy is based on four key building blocks:
Deliver a sustainable and resilient capital structure
blue- A disciplined disposals programme of non-core assets, re-focusing the Group on a portfolio of prime urban estates; reducing indebtedness and generating capital for redeployment into core assets and developments.
- The Board see maintaining an investment grade credit rating as an important element of our strategy
Create an agile platform
blue- Continually evolve our skills and capabilities to respond to the changing needs of our occupiers and customers, and the environments in which we operate.
- Create a more efficient organisation with more decision-making power for the teams closest to our assets and customers.
- Build new skill sets and strategic partnerships
- Increase the digitalisation and automation of our business
Reinvigorate our assets
blue- Opportunities to maximise income through optimising use of space including: the repurposing of department stores; redeveloping under-utilised space to alternative uses; curating new and engaging spaces; and attracting new occupiers and services.
- Creating a more asset focused portfolio and changing the makeup of occupiers to a broader mix of uses.
Accelerate development
- We have just over 100 acres of land ownerships and we are progressing detailed feasability studies for mixed-use developments, largely adjacent to our existing retail destinations.
- The land promotion projects offer the potential for us to become one of the leading city regeneration developers, creating lasting concepts and retaining long term custodianship using our placemaking and operational expertise.
