Hammerson announces that works on its £10 million redevelopment of Fife Central retail park in Kirkcaldy, Scotland have started on site.

A highly successful retail park and Fife’s largest at 30,000sqm,  Fife Central retail park is currently fully let to a range of leading retailers including, Sainsbury’s, Next, M&S Simply Food, B&Q, Toys ‘R’ Us and Boots.

The redevelopment will deliver 8,000 sqm of valuable  retail floor space replacing a vacant Homebase unit with new contemporary fully glazed retail units ranging from 500 sqm to 2,000 sqm, plus  two new catering pods that are likely to be used by coffee shops or grab and go food outlets.

Hammerson has already secured a strong line-up of leading retail brands, including Sofology, Wren Kitchens  and DW Sports to take  new units, all of which mark firsts for the brands in Fife.

To further enhance the scheme, Hammerson has also worked with existing retailer, PC World to right-size a unit for an enlarged store and will shortly welcome another new retailer, Tapi, the  carpet and flooring specialists, to the park.

All works are anticipated to be complete by the Summer 2017.

Andrew Berger North, UK Director of Retail Parks at Hammerson, commented: “It is a fantastic result that we are now delivering this redevelopment project. As the region’s leading retail park we want to ensure that the scheme continues to deliver customers with the very best mix of retailers as well as experience when they visit, which is why we have worked hard to bring forward our plans. Not only has our commitment to invest £10 million in the scheme already attracted new retailers to Kirkcaldy and Fife, but it will also provide a welcome boost to local employment in the area with 200 jobs created.”
