Leicester’s most popular shopping destination

Highcross opened to the public in September 2008, combining an extensive refurbishment of the former Shires shopping centre, together with a 61,000m2 mixed-use extension.

Today, Highcross forms an integral part of the city centre with over 100 shops and over 30 cafes and restaurants. Alongside well-loved brands such as John Lewis, Highcross is home to tech brands including Apple, luxury beauty stores such as Jo Malone and premium fashion such as All Saints, Levi’s and Lacoste.

Highcross has seen a significant boost in its line up in recent years, with space proactively taken back from House of Fraser in 2016 now accommodating a flagship Zara store alongside a full-line JD Sports.

In response to consumer demand, the leisure line up at Highcross has also been bolstered. Anchored by a Showcase Cinema de Lux, the centre offers a gym, Treetop Adventure Golf and indoor bouldering centre, Social Climbing.

As the largest city in the East Midlands, Leicester is well located at the centre of the motorway network and just one hour by train from London. Sitting in the heart of the city centre and just 20 minutes from the M1, Highcross is a truly accessible centre which is represented by the breath of its catchment.

The future

The Future

In December 2020, Hammerson announced plans to bring forward a build-to-rent residential scheme at Highcross, with private-rented-sector specialist Packaged Living.

The development would see part of the former Debenhams department store at Highcross, transformed into new high-quality homes for local people and major improvements in enlivening New Bond Street where the entrance will be located.

On completion, the scheme will provide over 300 new homes and an improved public realm for the city alongside bespoke resident amenities including co-working space and a private dining room. Sitting at the heart of the community, residents will be minutes from the city’s strong line-up of amenities and public transport links.
