Metro Bank and TK Maxx to open in Bristol Shopping Quarter

Hammerson has confirmed the leasing of two major high street names, TK Maxx and Metro Bank, to take spaces on Broadmead, an integral part of Bristol’s Shopping Quarter.

Metro Bank will be opening a store in Bristol later this year, taking a projected 24, 000 sq. ft. space which will include significant office and training spaces on the upper floors as part of its regional headquarters. The brand’s flagship opening in Holborn, London, in the summer of 2010, cemented the bank’s status for modernisation within its industry. It was the first new high street bank in over 100 years and has become renowned for its exceptional customer experience and its trusted products, with every store open seven days a week, and from 8am–8pm on weekdays with no appointment needed.

Hammerson has also secured a new site for the retailer TK Maxx Bristol was home to the first UK TX Maxx store, which opened in 1994. The new store, relocated on Merchant Street, will open in June 2018 in what is anticipated to be one of the largest TK Maxx openings in Europe this year. The brand will be increasing its footprint in Bristol, with the store planned to be 34,500 sq. ft., and offering a full range of products including womenswear, menswear, kids’ clothes and toys, homeware, gifts and beauty.

TK Maxx has more than 500 stores across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. The retailer is known for delivering a wide selection of brand names and designer products at prices up to 60% less than the RRP and at a significant discount comparable to prices in department stores.

Bristol was recently reported as a top ten most resilient retail locations in the UK according to new research from Cushman & Wakefield in their Retail Resilience Index  report. Bristol Shopping Quarter sits at the heart of the city, incorporating 500 shops, restaurants, cafes and attractions over four districts; Broadmead, Cabot Circus, The Arcade and The Galleries.

Bristol Shopping Quarter’s prime location has contributed to a growing consumer market, luring new and exciting brands to the city including TAG, and Joules, opening in Cabot Circus in the autumn.  Further store openings taking place this spring/summer include the recently opened up sized Holland and Barratt store in Cabot Circus.
