Westquay glitters with a strengthened jewellery offer

24.07.2017

Hammerson announces that Westquay, Southampton, is to welcome a new state-of-the-art jewellery showroom in September, LAING.

Michael Laing OBE, one of the UK’s leading diamond specialists and chairman of Scotland’s finest and most prestigious independent family jewellers, is to move his Parkhouse jewellery business from Above Bar to a new luxurious store in Westquay Shopping Centre.

The decision to move the Southampton store to Westquay coincides with a re-brand of the Parkhouse jewellery business in Hampshire as well as the other Parkhouse store in Cardiff. The re-brand from Parkhouse to LAING is a significant milestone for this leading sixth generation jewellery business as it enters a new era with a national presence. When it opens in September, LAING will trade on the level two of the mall, near other aspirational retailers including Russell & Bromley, which has recently opened its new store in the centre.

Established in 1840, LAING is known for its exceptional design and superior craftsmanship. The new 262 sq m store will benefit from a fit out of the highest specification with contemporary, light and airy interiors and it will house LAING’s fine diamond jewellery and the world’s leading luxury brands Rolex, Patek Philippe and IWC Schaffhausen.

Additionally, international jeweller Pandora has chosen to upsize its Westquay store from 86 sq m to 335 sq m, as it significantly increases its physical presence in the city. With its offer of high quality, hand-finished, modern and genuine jewellery products at affordable prices, Pandora has a significant footprint across the globe. The decision to increase the size of the store is reflective of the shopper demand for the brand’s products, with queues frequently building up outside the store during the festive season.

The new signings follow a period of intensive asset management activity at Westquay, which has brought in an enhanced tenant mix of retail and dining brands. In addition to Russell & Bromley, the centre has welcomed a new Lush store as well as restaurants COSMO, Franco Manca and Thaikhun.

Iain Mitchell, UK Commercial Director, said, “These latest signings cement Westquay as the region’s leading retail and leisure destination. We are delighted that the centre is the venue of choice for LAING a strong addition to the centre’s jewellery offer and retail line up which continues to evolve. The Pandora upsize is reflective of both shopper and occupier demand, with international retailers prioritising flagship stores to build brand awareness.”

Laing Chairman Michael Laing OBE, said: “The move from Above Bar to Westquay is an exciting development for our business and customers. The new store is a better fit for our brand and customers, we’re moving to a state-of-the-art luxurious showroom with more spacious, contemporary interiors and ease of parking. The decision to re-brand to LAING is a positive step for Parkhouse as it takes us onto a national platform as one brand.”
