Hammerson announces that Australian stationery chain, Smiggle is to open its third Irish store in Dublin city’s Ilac Centre, following its debut in Ireland at Dundrum Town Centre earlier this year.
Since opening its first store in the UK three years ago, Smiggle has enjoyed rapid expansion, now with 90 stores across the country. Following the opening at Dundrum, which was Smiggle’s most successful launch globally, the brand plans to rollout as many as 20 stores in Ireland over the next three years.
Its new 868 sq ft store will be located in the Ilac Centre’s Central Mall, beside Claire’s Accessories and opposite the Liverpool FC store. Due to open to the public on Friday 1 December, Smiggle will offer shoppers its full range of stationery focused on bold colour, quirky graphics, good value and innovation.
Dublin’s iconic Ilac Centre recently marked 35 years of city centre retail, and five new units were created in a €1.5 million extension and refurbishment of the Moore Mall South, bringing brands including BB’s Coffee and Muffins, The Works, Nisbets and So Nutrition. This new retail offer brings the total number of new stores opening in the Ilac Centre to seven in the second half of this year, and sees the popular shopping destination now fully occupied.
Simon Betty, Director of Retail, Ireland at Hammerson, commented, “Smiggle is the perfect addition to the line-up at The Ilac Centre. A prime retail destination, the centre now boasts a great mix of fashion and lifestyle brands alongside numerous leisure and dining options. The centre’s ability to attract renowned international brands such as Smiggle is testament not only to its iconic location in the heart of Dublin, but also to its regional strength.”
Managing Director of Smiggle, John Cheston, said, “Opening stores in Ireland is very exciting for us. Smiggle arrived in the UK in 2014, and since then it’s always been our ambition to open Smiggle stores in Ireland – so I’m over the moon we’re opening our third this year.
“There really is nothing like Smiggle anywhere else on the high street – and it will be great to see the public’s reaction when the doors open in Dublin on December 1.
“It’s important for us to inject fun into everything we do – from product design to store design, we will always focus on delivering to our fans the most original and playful stationery possible.”
The Ilac Centre is jointly owned by Irish Life and Hammerson, a FTSE 100 global retail developer which owns and manages retail destinations across Europe, including Dundrum Town Centre in south Dublin and Birmingham’s iconic Bullring shopping centre.
