Fashion brands flock to Marseille

A raft of leading fashion retailers have signed up to Hammerson’s Les Terrasses du Port retail scheme ahead of opening.

Japanese fashion brand UNIQLO will open its first store in Marseille as it continues its French and European expansion with a 685m² (7,400ft²) store which will showcase both women’s and menswear collections.

Strengthening the domestic fashion line up will be Kooples Sport, who will open its first dedicated store in the city with a 120m² (1,290m²) unit. Contemporary ladies fashion label Comptoir des Cotonniers will open a 143m² (1,540ft²) store and its sister lingerie brand, Princesse Tam Tam,. will also open a 77m² (830ft²) boutique.

Commenting on the announcement Berndt Hauptkorn, CEO of UNIQLO Europe and Fast Retailing Group Officer said, “We are thrilled to open our first French store in Marseille at Les Terrasses du Port as part of our European expansion, and to offer UNIQLO products to Marseille’s residents and tourists.”

Jean-Philippe Mouton, MD of Hammerson France commented: “With less than a month to go until opening it’s great that we are attracting the right mix of international names and successful French brands which will be a unique offer for Marseille.”

The 61,0000m² scheme is 96% let, will be home to 190 new stores and restaurants and is the largest French retail development to launch during 2014.
